Whats EST?!
"Washington DC's premier Ska-Jazz outfit, Eastern Standard Time, brings together top musicians from the Jazz and Ska scenes of the nation's capitol. The diverse musical backgrounds of the players--from Emo to Funk, Hip Hop to Exotica, Bop to Metal--make for a unique spin on a traditional Jamaican sound, appealing to everyone from the Ska massive to the Caribbean community to the Jazz enthusiast.
While the backgrounds of the members may be varied, Eastern Standard Time remains true to the roots of Ska music by playing a style that has been a seminal influence on many modern genres such as Reggae, Alternative, Punk and Rap. The unique sound--both cutting edge and simultaneously traditional--comes from their modern implementation of the original Ska recipe: hot Jazz melodies and Bop garlands overlay syncopated Caribbean rhythms. Eastern Standard Time performs their own music, yet Ska and Jazz purists find interesting insight into familiar tunes when Eastern Standard Time put a unique spin on a Jamaican Ska classic or a new twist to a Jazz standard. Their sound reaches the traditional Ska scene, but also makes them equally suited to outdoor festivals and smoky juke joints. Eastern Standard Time is for people who want to get their feet movin' on the dance floor." -Courtesy of EasternStandardTime.com

Why go to this show?
Theres many reasons, Very rarely does a show of this kind come to south florida. It's a rare chance to catch some traditonal ska, oi-ska, and more under one roof, in one night.
For all the kids who have school, the next day there is no school, so make your way down to the alley, buddy up with friends and get a ride, or visit the MBC board and ask if anyone is willing to help, organize a "convoy" meeting at susnet place or something and taking the metro to teh alley, hell if anything buddy up with 3-4 people and catch a taxi, but do not miss this show!!
